Strides For Africa 15th Annual Run/Walk • Madison, WI • August 17, 2024

Strides for Africa’s 15th Annual Run/Walk is a fun and family friendly event for all ages to participate and help us make global impact. We are holding an in-person event in downtown Madison on August 17, 2024 at McPike Park in Madison to kickoff Africa Fest 2024. There are many options available to participants including a 5K run, a 5K walk, a unique Team Relay (simulating rigors of gathering water in rural Africa), a 1.5 mile fun walk, and a kids fun run.

Our clean water, education, and health give back projects in Africa provide participants a unique opportunity to see positive outcomes within impoverished rural African communities. These outcomes include improved health, empowered youth, and ultimately transformed rural African communities. On the local level, our work provides an outlet for our participants and supporters an opportunity to be a global citizen.

Your Impact

Strides For Africa has aspirations for this year's event to spark community driven, sustainable clean water projects in both West and East Africa. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for the following projects:

- Two Water wells at schools/communities in rural Nimba County, Liberia ($7,400)

- Latrine/clean water project at a school in Tanzania ($7,000)

-Water collection System, Storage, and Filtering in Rwanda ($7,000)

- Water well at a school/community in Kabala, Sierra Leone ($3,600)

Every dollar raised goes directly to these projects.

For many in rural Africa, the daily grind for water takes an incredible amount of effort, particularly for women and children. This relay is not meant to be competitive, but rather, and educational opportunity to simulate the challenges of the water gathering process for millions in rural Africa.

How Does The Team Relay Work?

The team relay will require teams to carry an empty 5-gallon jerry can from the start line to the filling station near Tenney Park (approx. 1 mile). Teams will fill their jerry can to their desired weight (a full can weighs about 50lbs). The jerry cans will be equipped with 1.5in webbing, seatbelt material, to serve as a harness. The harness is easily adjustable for the whole team.

During the relay, one member of the team will carry the jerry can at at time, while the other team members walk along side. The jerry can may be switched between team members at any time.
